ALCHEMICAL EMBLEM WORKSHOPS
Tuesday August 4, Wednesday August 5, Thursday August 6 / 4-6pm / 13+ / FREE
During her residency this week, join Arrowyn Ambrose for Alchemical Emblem Workshops. Arrowyn will be workshopping and incubating the source material for Three Golden Apples, a new participatory, multidisciplinary performance inspired by Atalanta Fugiens (Michael Maier, 1617), one of the first multimedia art forms in Western history. She is gathering a small ensemble of writers, dancers, interdisciplinary artists and community members to work alongside her. Together they will move through a structured daily inquiry process using selected emblems, epigrams, and fugues from Maier's text as their primary material — alongside the myth of Atalanta herself, the sovereign huntress who loses a race she was winning because she stops to pick up three golden apples. The goal of the residency is threefold: to develop the performance's choral text, movement vocabulary, and structural score through a collaborative, embodied process - and to discover, through that process, what this myth actually wants to say right now, in these bodies, in this moment.
SHOW+TELL: Three Golden Apples
Saturday, August 8, 4-6pm / 13+ / $20 Suggested Donation
On Saturday, August 8, join Arrowyn’s SHOW+TELL to experience the creative process of creating the performance art piece for Three Golden Apples. They will walk you through how they engaged with the emblems from the book and share discoveries. You'll hear part of their collaborative group choral poem and witness an aspect of an embodied performance of the Atalanta myth herself. Arrowyn will be joined by collaborators Felicia St. Cyr, Hilary Ives and Rachel Lindemann. This will be experiential as well as performative. Q+A to follow.
Arrowyn Ambrose is an embodied, trauma-informed, facilitator, writer, mother, and performance artist who holds an MA in Depth Psychology and Creativity.
