‘TAI CHI + MARTIAL ARTS FUNDAMENTALS’

TAI CHI AND MARTIAL ARTS FUNDAMENTALS: Saturday, December 6, 10:30 am -12 pm / FREE

Dive into the fundamentals of tai-chi and internal martial arts to loosen the joints, muscles and brain. We will move though traditional tai chi sequences for your body to become fully available for you. We will evolve our movements into more explosive and fiery kung fu / wushu style basics to increase flexibility, stamina and release your power with pure joy.
Dancer and Choreographer, Jennifer Rose is a disciple of two MacArthur Fellow Genius awardees; Shen Wei and Bill T. Jones. After 15 years on tour, she now choreographs sensual, visceral and mythical work for the stage and screen and holds Best Choreographer and Best Director Awards.She choreographs stage performances for the famed all female choir "Mystery of the Bulgarian Voice" and has made dance theatre work in sacred sites in Greece, Spain and all across Indonesia. Her travels have led her to train as a martial artist in both tai chi and wushu forms and is thrilled to share her passion and knowledge with Desert Trade.

DANCE ON FILM with Charissa Kroeger: January 31, 2026, 11 am - 1pm / FREE
DANCE ON FILM is a workshop exploring filmmaking that uses movement as its narrative vessel. Participants will explore creative process, tools to best communicate emotionality through movement/choreography/gesture, and craft their own short film. This exploration is open to all ages and guided by Choreographer and Director Charissa Kroeger [Cannes Lion Young Director Award Winner, DESERTRADE Artist in Residence 2024].

A SoCal native, Charissa has made her imprint on the Los Angeles landscape and beyond — creating movement for Lancome, Coach, Chanel, Miley Cyrus, Zendaya, Valentino, and Skims. She has crafted cinematic magic for Emmy, Oscar, and Grammy-nominated productions led by luminaries such as Paul Thomas Anderson, Nicole Kidman, Francis Ford Coppola, Harmony Korine and Olivia Wilde. Charissa is the 2024 recipient of the Cannes Lion Young Director Award in Video Art for her film SPAGHETTI, which she directed, choreographed, and produced.
